About Karen:
Karen Dauenhauer is a Scenic Designer and Scenic Artist. She has held the position of Assistant Professor of Scenic Design for the Theatre Arts Program at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock since August 2023. Previously, she served as Technical Director and Clinical Assistant Professor at Coker University (August 2021-June 2023).
Karen graduated from Mississippi University for Women in 2016 with a B.A. in Theatre and a Minor in Music. She received her M.F.A. in Scenic Design from the University of Georgia in May of 2021. While in graduate school, she was a Graduate Assistant, working in the shop as Charge Scenic Artist and as a TA during her final year in the program.
Karen first became involved with theatre when she played a minor role in a community college production of The Wizard of Oz at the age of 12. Her past credits include director, choreographer, technician, and actor, all of which have influenced her work as a designer. She believes strongly that, in order to be a skilled and empathetic collaborator, one must have an understanding of what all the other areas do during a theatrical process.
In her spare time, Karen takes on freelance design work in addition to art commissions and enjoys participating in art shows. If you are interested in a commission piece, please reach out to her via email (k.dauenhauer30@gmail.com) or phone (662-312-1852)!
